HOW TO GET IN AND AROUND THE BUILDING
Our location is easy to find and is often spotted first as Shelley Manor Medical Centre. We are near the cliff top at Boscombe within walking distance of the shops and our building is situated right next to parkland with a children’s playground. Boscombe is situated roughly between Bournemouth and Southbourne.
We are a 15 minute walk from Pokedown for Boscombe railway station and a five minute walk from all the major bus routes that pass through Boscombe.
We have a car park in front of the building which is shared with the medical centre during the day and one to the rear off Chessil Avenue that can be used after 6pm and at weekends. Both car parks have designated disabled parking spaces although the front car park is recommended for easy access. We ask all customers who are able to walk freely to please use the back car park which is less than a one minute walk to the venue. Our main entrance is situated in the courtyard to the right of the medical centre. Doors to the venue open one hour before the performance or event you are attending. Click here for box office opening hours outside of these times.
Information for those with access requirements
Wheelchair users can access the building ‘step free’ through the door to the left of the courtyard which we can open on request. There is one small door strip to go over on the way in. Some peopple need assistance in going over this. Otherwise, entering the building or the box office involves one small step.
The foyer space contains one accessible toilet and two other ground level unisex toilets. There is level access into the theatre via another ramp from the foyer. The floor is a concrete surface with some uneven features but is generally negotiable. Our floor is being re laid this summer removing all uneven surfaces and the need for ramps.
The theatre contains two wheelchair spaces towards the front with a good view of the stage. These spaces adjoin regular seat. Rows A to F are level with the rows behind being on steps. There is ramped access to the emergency exit but once outside the theatre, wheelchair users will be evacuated onto parkland which includes shingle and grassed areas.
We do not have induction loops fitted into the building at present and have plans to do this when we are able to fundraise for this.
If you are due to perfrom on our stage, the stage area is elevated by approximately 18 inches or traversing two steps. We do not have ramps ot this area at present or any back stage toilet facilities. The dressing room is level access.
The studio space is accessed via a steep staircase and is not suitable for those who cannot safely negotiate steps within public spaces that might need to be evacuated. We do hope to install a lift when funds allow. There are not presently any toilet facilities at the studio level.
Discounts are available on most events for wheelchair users plus one other person (sually a half price ticket each). These need to be booked via teh box office either in person or by phone. There are other discounts available for people with diabilities and esential careres on most events and these are availble for selection at teh time of purchase.
